Out of the nine planets , our planet has life because of the presence of these
five elements. All these five elements have some effect on the life of an
individual in one way or the other. Vaastu has got the principles laid down
which takes into consideration the effects of these elements on the life of
individual in a dwelling unit or house.
The five elements do have different characters associated with them:
Earth ( Prithvi): - The main characteristscs of this element are Shabda,
Sparsha, Roopa, Rasa and Guna. This is the only element which is linked to all
the five senses and hence it exerts the maximum influence on the individual’s
life.
Sky(Aakash): The main characteristic associated with this element is
Shabda(Sound) which is related to sense of hearing. This element is meant for
producing sensitive environment currents. In a house, space element is related
to the centre portion or the brahmasthan.
Air (Vaayu): Its main characteristics are Shabda and Sparsha (Sound). Our sense
of sound, touch and feel are related to Air. It plays very important role in
Vaastu as there should be sufficient provision of the passage of air.
Fire (Agni) : Fire is being associated with enthusiasm,ardor,passion,spirited
vigor. The main characteristics of this element are Shabda, Sparsha and Roopa
(outer appearance). Sun is considered to be the main source of energy and light
on earth . It plays important role while designing the dwelling unit or
structure using Vaastu.
Water (Paani/Jala): The main characteristics of this element are Shabda,
Sparsha, Roopa and Rasa (taste). It is represented by rain, river and sea. This
element is associated with north east direction.
