Easter

Easter is the most important religious feast of the Christian faith and it always falls on Sunday between March 22 to April 25 as per western Christianity and between early Paril to early May as per eastern christianity. Easter is also known as Pascha, the Feast of the Resurrection, the Sunday of the Resurrection, or Resurrection Day. It is observed in memory of the resurrection of Jesus, which his followers believe occurred on the third day after his death by crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33. In the Roman Catholic Church, Easter is observed for eight days. Easter has got non-religious importance attached to it also. Initially, it was a pagan festival. It used to get celebrated by the ancient Saxons for the return of spring which was associated with the Goddess of spingtime and offspring also knwon as Eastre.

The festival of Pagan happened to be at the same time as that of Easter and slowly the name Eastre for Pagan festival changed to Easter for commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So Easter is the time of spring time festivals, a time to welcome back the spring and features associated with spring. Its a time of new suits, new dresses and patent leather shoes. A time for Christians to celebrate the life and resurrection of Christ. And a time of chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks, and colored eggs!

About Easter

The Easter festival is observed in many different ways among Western and eastern Christians. The traditional, liturgical observation of Easter, as practised among Roman Catholics and some Lutherans and Anglicans begins on the night of Holy Saturday with the Easter Vigil. Some christians get decked up in formal dresses and visit Church on this day. Handbells are vigorously shaken by altar boys, the air is filled with incense and the faithful raise their voices heavenward in a triumphant rendering of age-old Easter hymns. After the Blessed Sacrament is carried around the church and Adoration is complete, the Easter Mass begins.
