The first day on the Gregorian calendar is celebrated as the New Year. January 1st is popularly known as the New Year Day in modern times. Another practice now a days, is celebrating the New Year's Eve, which falls on December 31st, a day before New Year. It is basically to commemorate the by-gone year and usher in the New Year with elegance and grace. People indulge in partying with family and friends and there are grand displays of fireworks at the stroke of midnight.
