Description
After completing his three years' Residency in Ophthalmology at Dr R.P.Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dinesh Verma went to the United Kingdom in 1983. He worked as a Senior House Officer in Hastings and Redhill in England before moving to Scotland as a Specialist Registrar. He was a Consultant Ophthalmologist in England from 1992 till 2001, Chief of Retina Service in Hull & East Yorkshire NHS Trust from 1994 till 2001 and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health, University of Hull from 1998 till 2001. His areas of special interest are Medical/Surgical Retina and Information Technology in Medicine. He is Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is a member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Telemedicine Association, Institute of Patentees and Inventors, Oxford Ophthalmological Society, North of England Ophthalmological Society, Vitreous Society and All India Ophthalmological society of India. In April 2001 he was awarded the prestigious Mid-career award by PPP Foundation, London for research in Virtual Reality Simulation in Vitreoretinal Surgery and went as visiting Associate Professor at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University Hospitals, Baltimore where he was offered US residency based on Extra-ordinary ability. In October 2001, he moved to the newly established Doheny Retina Institute, Los Angeles where he currently holds a full-time faculty position of Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology with the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. He was Director of Distance Education & Tele-Ophthalmology for the Doheny Retina Institute and also holds the position of Chief of Retina Service at Los Angeles County, University of Southern California (LAC+USC) Medical Center, one of the largest teaching hospitals in USA. Dr Verma returned to England and was appointed Medical Director of a independent sector company in a 50 crore rupees project to reduce cataract waiting lists in England in 2004. He now has his own company as founder CEO of i4vision diagnostics to develop his invention Personal Ophthalmic Diagnostic Systems.
